The task force coordinated by Italy’s Communications Ministry to manage the transition to digital terrestrial broadcasting in the Sardinia region has established that the switch-off originally planned for March will take place between September 1 and October 30, 2008.
The delay is due to the necessary timing for the implementation of the plan for the assigning of frequencies passed by the Communications Authority on February 5. As a result, broadcasters will be able to use the time between March and October to acquire all the necessary technology and intervene on hundreds of transmitters present on the island.
Paolo Gentiloni, the Communications Minister, has allocated €54.8 million to support the transition process in the all-digital regions.
