The Bucharest city authorities have effectively blocked the NetCity fibre-optic project. According to a local report, advisors to the City Hall have refused to approve a leasing contract for the project, which would cost in the region of €200 million and provide infrastructure for both cable operators and ISPs, were it to go ahead. Although the Romanian cable industry, represented by Cable Communications Association (ACC), still remains broadly supportive of the project, it also feels that it has not been properly costed and assessed from a technical perspective.
