The Italian pay-TV operator Sky Italia has secured the rights to the forthcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 and the London Olympics in 2012. It will now seek to share them with a FTA broadcaster, as the News Corp.-backed company is not present in the sector. Sky’s acquisition of the rights is a blow to both the public broadcaster RAI and Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset: both have previously had Olympics coverage, and the former holds the rights to the Beijing Games later this year.
