The Portuguese government has set April 22 as the date by when applications to participate in the country’s DTT system should be lodged.
The two regulators, ICP and Anacom, will then have 40 days to announce the selected free-to-air channels and 60 days for the pay-TV channels.
Portugal Telecom SGPS, Sonaecom SGPS, Promotora de Informaciones SA’s Media Capital SGPS unit and Vodafone Portugal are all understood to have asked for information on the tender. However, Portugal Telecom’s Zon division is likely to be excluded from operating a multiplex due to regulatory concerns.
The government is aiming to have completed digital switchover by the European Union deadline of 2012.
