The French DTH platform Canal Satellite Numérique is to swap all its outstanding smart cards for a new, more secure version, the company told its subscribers in a recent letter. The move is intended to better fight piracy of the signal. The new card is called Merlin and uses Kudelski’s MediaGuard V9 encryption. Shipment of the new cards has already begun and all old cards will be made redundant on March 20.
