Popular BBC Television programmes are to be made available through the Apple iTunes Store in the UK following an agreement with BBC Worldwide.
Programmes will be made available immediately after the initial seven-day window on the BBC iPlayer and can be purchased for £1.89 per episode. The programmes can then be viewered on a Mac or PC, iPod with video, iPhone or Apple TV.
“We want to give audiences a wide variety of options on how and where to view their favourite BBC shows,” said Simon Danker, Director of Digital Media at BBC Worldwide.
Featured programmes include Torchwood, Life on Mars, Little Britain, Spooks, Robin Hood and Ashes to Ashes.
Earlier this year, BBC Future Media director Ashley Highfield suggested that the Apple iTunes infrastructure could be used to allow Mac owners to download programmes for the same 28-day period granted to PC users rather than be restricted to streaming alone.
