Nordic pay-TV platform Canal Digital is to start twinning its set-top boxes, a process that will restrict their use to known subscribers. The Nordic market in particular has suffered from the pirating of signals using so called card-sharing devices and Canal Digital has previously allowed the sale of multiroom subscriptions effectively on trust.
By using technology within the Conax conditional access system, Canal Digital will now pair each smart card with a particular set-top box, though where a multiroom subscription has been taken out multiple cards will work with all the set-top boxes in use within a subscribing household.
