Russia’s likely future president Dmitry Medvedev has called for the launch of a 24-hour channel aimed solely at people working in the agricultural sector. Although Russia already has some unique thematic channels – one named Zvezda is dedicated to patriotic issues – local reports indicate that his proposal has not been entirely well received. Yevgeny Kiselyov, a former head of NTV, has pointed out that such a service would find it hard to reach its likely audience, few of which receive cable or satellite delivered TV channels.
