MTV Networks’ Comedy Central is planning a launch in the Nordic region later this year.
MTV Networks Europe’s Marco De Ruiter told Broadband TV News the channel would show content similar to that found in the Netherlands, where South Park, Caveman, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air provide the laughs, and Poland, where Sex in the City and Friends feature.
The channel is planning a market-by-market entrance that is expected to start with Sweden, before rolling out in Norway, Denmark and Finland. Talks are currently underway with local operators. De Ruiter said that the channel would be positioned for a wide distribution and he would be open to carriage from other countries in the region ahead of a full localisation. He emphasised the increase importance of versioning in the region.
