Russia’s leading long distance fixed line company Rostelecom may bid for a stake in the Latvian incumbent telco Lattelecom, according to an agency report. It was citing Viktor Kalyuzhny, the Russian ambassador to Latvia, who added that Rostelecom would be interested if companies from outside the EU are allowed to participate in the tender. Lattelecom is currently 51% owned by the Latvian state, with Tilts Communications, a subsidiary of TeliaSonera, holding the remaining 49% of shares. Its interests include one of the most technologically advanced IPTV platforms in Central and Eastern Europe.
