Continental Airlines will add Wi-Fi Internet access and satellite television to some of its fleet of airplanes. Continental is contracting the services out to LiveTV. Southwest and American Airlines already offer in-air Wi-Fi and satellite television options. Continental’s service will be provided free for first class users andwill be available for a $6 fee for economy class travellers.
The satellite television will include channels from DirecTV’s lineup and CBS, NBC, FOX News, CNN Headline News, ESPN, Animal Planet, The History Channel, Food Network, Nickelodeon and MTV. The services will be installed into aircraft throughout 2009, and 225 will include the Wi-Fi and satellite television package by the end of 2010.
