The Swedish Space Corporation has exercised a ‘put option’ that transfers an additional 15% equity stake in SES Sirius to SES Astra. The purchase takes SES’s interest in the satellite operator to 90%. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
SES has been a shareholder in SES Sirius, which operates the five degrees East satellite position, since 2000.
“This transaction provides SSC with opportunities to also pursue other business opportunities and was already foreseen when SES acquired a majority stake in Sirius four years ago,” said Lars Persson, President and CEO of Swedish Space Corporation. “We will continue to work in close co-operation with SES Sirius and the SES group in the telecom satellite area.” This includes the provision of network operations, satellite control, telemetry, and tracking and control for the Sirius satellite fleet.
Romain Bausch, President and CEO of SES said the co-operation had brought greater synergies between the Astra and Sirius satellites.
