French telecom operator Orange, part of incumbent France Telecom, has confirmed press reports that the company is in talks with satellite operators to launch their own DTH service. “It is not our ambition to clash head-to-head with Canal+,” said a spokesperson, “We are in constant talks with them.” The move into DTH is to “complement our triple play offer across our territory.” DTH will serve those areas currently not reached by the Orange IPTV service over DSL. Just last week, Orange has also made a bid for the rights to broadcast the French football league.
