MTV is to drop its User Generated Content channel MTV Flux from Sky Digital after just 15 months on-air and replace it with a timeshifted version of flagship channel MTV One. It’s the second time the launch of a viewer playlist channel has failed for the network. In the mid 1990s, well before the term user generated content became common currency, MTV tried a web-based channel where viewers selected their own playlists.
The MTV Flux brand will continue in the form of its online community and the concept will be integrated into the schedules of MTV’s other music channels MTV2, Base, Hits and Dance in the form of a 30-minute show.
MTV One Plus 1 is scheduled to commence early next month.
