David Elstein is reported to be planning to step down from the board of Virgin Media after five years as a non-executive director.
Elstein, a former chief executive of Channel 5, is the only UK-based director of the cablenet and has been a key independent voice on the board of the Nasdaq-listed company.
There had been concern that the US hedge-fund manager Bill Huff exerted too much control over the operations of the company. Huff has subsequently reduced his holding to just 4.1%, and former employee William Connors left the board last year, but he maintains a voice in another former staff member Edwin Banks.
