Canal Plus has failed in its attempt to prevent the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) from holding onto the production rights when it puts forward a new tender for the right to broadcast the French first division.
The State Council, France’s highest administrative court, said it did not have the authority to rule on the matter. Canal had argued that the LFP could not hold onto the rights to produce coverage of the matches when selling the rights to a third party.
The pay-TV operator has filed an appeal with the French civil court, Tribunal de Grande Instance (TGI), which is expected to rule on the matter February 15.
