UPDATE: Japanese private equity firm Unison Capital is to invest around $50 million (€34 million) into Intelsat, helping the satellite operator extend its reach further into the Asian market, according to unnamed industry sources. It is anticipated that Intelsat will use a combination of growth and acquisition to grow its footprint in a market often seen as fragmented.
Unison will join Serafina Holdings, the company created by BC Partners, following its $16.4 purchase of the company in June last year. BC Partners is scheduled to complete its acquisition by the end of the first quarter of 2008.
Intelsat today confirmed US private equity firm Silver Lake, a specialist in technology companies, was to invest in the company as part of a combined $860m note redemption.
