The Polish national commercial broadcaster Polsat and ITI Neovision, the operator of the DTH platform n, are reported to have signed an agreement to launch a new channel named Polska Ekstraklasa TV. Ekstraklasa is the premier Polish football league, and it has invited bids for the rights to matches for three seasons in the period 2008-2011. If launched, Polska Ekstraklasa TV would be made available to all cable and DTH operators in Poland at a cost of PLN16 (€4.44) per subscriber. It would also guarantee Ekstraklasa, which is due to meet today (January 7) to discuss the bidding process for the rights, some PLN100 million a season. Rights to Ekstraklasa have until now been held by Canal+.
