OpenTV has confirmed that Sky Italia has extended its middleware licence agreement with a multi-year renewal. The agreement squashes any thoughts that the News Corp-owned DTH operation might instead look to deploy MediaHighway from its own technology company NDS.
“We are extremely pleased with Sky Italia’s decision to renew our relationship on a long term basis and explore OpenTV’s full range of next generation middleware products,” said Ben Bennett, OpenTV’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our goal is to continue building on this strong partnership by ensuring our technology is aligned as closely as possible with Sky Italia’s business needs.”
In response Mark Williams, Sky Italia’s chief operating officer, said he was pleased to extend the relationship with the Kudelski-owned company. “OpenTV’s commitment and responsiveness to our requirements make them the middleware of choice for Sky Italia,” he said.
Sky Italia launched in 2003 following the consolidation of the Telepiu and Stream platforms. As of September 30, 2007 the platform had 4,240,000 subscribers.
