NBC-Universal has said it will make episodes of its hit series ‘The Office’ and ‘Heroes’ available on the new Fanfare platform. Individual programmes may be requested and downloaded on the computer for viewing on regular TV sets and mobile devices.
Fanfare is a new download service from SanDisk, slated for a January launch, which will offer downloads to PCs. Using a special device called TakeTV, the programmes may be viewed back on regular TV sets. A special docking station which connects to the TV set is needed.
In a way, Take TV competes with Apple TV but it does not have a direct connection between the devices. Instead, programmes are stored on a SanDisk memory device. No suprprise, given the fact that SanDisk is a manufacturer of storage devices.
