Water pipes rather than cable pipes were the primary concern to Virgin Media’s head of content Malcolm Wall at Informa’s European Media Leaders Summit in London yesterday.
Wall was outlining the problems facing TV over the internet in a market where speeds of 2 Mbps were common, when according to local reports, a water pipe just above a lighting rig a few metres from the stage burst. Wall and fellow damp executives from Bebo, Pace and Brightcover headed for cover as the water shut off power to the stage’s lighting rig.
Delegates left the halls and guest were alarms sounded for guests to leave their rooms.
Wall had previously forecast plans to upgrade speed to 50 Mbps – though in an analyst call a few weeks previous acting CEO Neil Berkett cast doubt on how soon this might be introduced.
Wall added that Virgin’s VOD service had now passed Five in terms of consolidated viewing.
