After a number of years of test transmissions, the Walloon public broadcaster RTBF has now officially launched its DTT service in the French speaking part of the country. The public bouquet consists of four TV channels – La Une, La Deux, La Trois and Euronews – as well as all five RTBF radio stations ((La Première, Vivacité, Classic 21, Musiq3, PureFM) as well as the public German-language station RBF.
La Trois is a new channel, which is mainly a rebroadcast of the international RTBFSat channel with some local insertions including a version of the main evening news at 7.30pm with sign language.
The French language DTT offer is expected to be enlarged after analogue switch-off in 2011. The Dutch speaking northern part of the country already has a single DTT multiplex from the public broadcaster VRT. In the coming year, commercial broadcasters will also be granted access to new DTT multiplexes.
