The Czech president Vaclav Klaus has approved amendments to the country’s media law. Due to come into effect at the beginning of 2008, they will pave the way for the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. The amendments will see all parties that currently hold analogue licences awarded digital ones provided they meet specific criteria, and the six companies that had digital licences granted and subsequently withdrawn last year – TV Barrandov. Febio TV, TV Pohoda, Ocko, RTA and Z1 – given special ‘compensatory’ licences. They will also allow commercials to be retained on Czech Television (CT) and set the ASO target date set at October 10, 2010.
