The Romanian MSO RCS/RDS has confirmed to the local press that it will apply for a syndicated loan of €500 million to a consortium of banks, led by Citibank and ING, to develop 3G infrastructure throughout the country. It will also use technology supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks for the infrastructure. Having undertaken a pilot in Oradea, RCS/RDS expects to launch 3G services in up to 15 cities, including the capital, Bucharest, by the end of the year. They will eventually be available in up to 60 cities. RCS/RDS operates the second largest cable operation in Romania and one of the country’s five DTH platforms. It recent scrapped plans to hold an IPO in London.
