Freeview, the marketing brand of the UK’s DTT platform, has announced it is now available in 14 million homes. It underlines recent figures from the UK regulator Ofcom that suggest 80% of people converting from analogue are opting for the UK DTT platform.
Ilse Howling, general manager at Freeview, described the numbers as a fantastic achievement, referring to the five years since the Freeview launch, though DTT itself has been available in the UK since the debut of the ill fated On Digital ten years ago.
“We’re also seeing significant numbers of people choosing Freeview for their second and third TV sets, in their kitchen or bedroom, she said. “The evolution of the service with Freeview Playback, our own digital TV recorder brand … also means that we continue to offer more to our customers whilst maintaining our simple proposition of great free TV.”
This week Freeview launched its first dedicated advertising campaign for the free-to-air proposition.
