ACC – BUCHAREST. Speaking at the 12th Romanian Cable Communications Association (ACC) convention, Gheorge Minea, the president of Digital Cable Systems (DCS), said that the company would look into the possibility of offering IPTV in 2008. Such as possibility is also being considered by the incumbent telco Romtelecom, which already operates Dolce, one of Romania’s five DTH platforms.
DCS consists of a group of small cable operators and is effectively the third largest MSO after UPC and RCS/RDS. It also operates the DTH platform Max TV. IPTV is still very much in its infancy in Romania and will be hard pushed to gain a foothold in the marketplace in the near future due to still relatively low broadband penetration.
