Sky Italia added a further 40,000 subscribers on the first quarter alongside an operating income of $48 million. This represents an improvement of $61 million on the $13 million loss made one year ago. There are perhaps signs of a slight slowdown in subscriber numbers after increases of 410,000 net new households in the past 12 months. The total subscriber base now stands at 4.24 million. Owners News Corp issued its by now familiar reminder that programming costs due to the increased subscriber base and the launch costs associated with new channels impacted on final revenues. No figures have been released on the success, or otherwise, of Sky Italia’s HD product.
