The Romanian media group MediaPro appears to have an in-built advantage in its bid to secure the TV rights to games played by the country’s national football team. Several local newspapers have revealed that MediaPro, which is backed by the US investment company CME, benefits from terms introduced by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) that favour broadcasters with the highest ratings, both generally and for their sports programming. MediaPro’s Pro TV has been the market leader for several years, placing other players such as Antena 1, Prima TV, Realitatea and the public broadcaster TVR at a disadvantage in securing the football rights.
