Last week in Hong Kong the first digital terrestrial television tests were started by the Hong Kong Digital Terrestrial Television Local Testing Group. The group was established by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp, the Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), terrestrial TV broadcasters TVB and ATV and Rohde and Schwarz Hong Kong.
“Our testing can help manufacturers from Hong Kong, the mainland and other countries obtain the voluntary labels issued by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, which will certify the digital TV broadcasting technology of products,” said I Chih- lin, ASTRI’s Communications Technologies Group VP and group director.
ATV and TVB will roll out the digital broadcast service by year-end. Analogue swittch-off is planned by 2012.
