Swisscom is to shut down its Betty TV business in Switzerland after results fell significantly below expectations. Since its launch last June, Betty TV has reached just 100,000 subscribers, with another 100,000 in Germany. Swisscom is hoping to find a buyer for the German operations and integrate the Swiss customer base into the organisation.
Betty TV is based around the TV remote and enables viewers to participate in a number of live broadcasts. The remote had its own dedicated display screen and transmitted the data back to telephone line.
Around 300,000 devices were acquired for the service leading to a SFr60m hit on Swisscom’s EBITDA.
