BSkyB has passed the significant milestone of one million subscribers to its Sky Broadband service – a feat achieved 14 months after its first connection and faster than any other UK ISP.
Around 30% of customers signed to the service are also new Sky TV subscribers and 70% are taking a paid for option.
In the 12 months to June 30, 2007, Sky added 716,000 broadband subscribers, compared to 701,000 for the combined Carphone Warehouse-AOL, 691,000 for BT Broadband and 330,000 to Virgin Media.
Separately, Virgin Media has said that proposals by Sky to cede a portion of its ITV voting rights in a bid to address concerns raised by the Competition Commission do not go far enough. Virgin is demanding Sky sells all of its 17.9% holding in the commercial broadcaster.
