Spanish pay-TV operator Sogecable is taking an additional transponder on SES-Astra’s prime orbital slot at 19 degrees East. The operator of the Digital+ and Canal+ brands is launching a new high definition television service. Its HD compatible iPlus product, which also includes a DTT tuner and personal video recorder, was released on September 25. The new Astra lease brings the number of transponders held by Sogecable to 11.
Industry watchers will be keen to see if Sogecable, which continues to dual illuminate Digital+ on Hispasat, will also take HD capacity on the Spanish satellite system.
