The election of a new government in Poland could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s broadcast industry. Local reports say the in-coming Civic Forum’s (PO’s) media policy may lead to the privatisation of the national public broadcaster TVP, though this would probably meet with strong opposition. The composition of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) is meanwhile likely to be changed, though there is also a possibility the body could be closed and its functions transferred to the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE). Furthermore, moves to launch a DTT platform are likely to be speeded up.
