French media authority CSA has decided on the further rollout of DTT in the country and identified 208 regions that will be served with terrestrial digital transmissions before the end of 2008. By that time, 89% of the French population should be reached. The new transmitters will be deployed in three stages in June, October and December of next year.
At the end of this year, 85% of the population will have access to DTT transmissions. By 2011 95% of the people should be able to receive at least the six ‘historical channels” TF1, France 2, France 3, France 5, M6 and Arte.
The CSA also said it had given permission to transmitter company TDF to run mobile TV tests on the Paris RTPA metro network to evaluate reception in train stations and tunnels. The pilot will run until January 15, 2008.
