Deutsche Telekom and the association of housing estates and corporations, the Wohnungswirtschaft (GdW), have signed an agreement to jointly market IPTV and broadband services. “We want to offer our members an alternative option,” said GdW president Lutz Freitag during a presentation of the joint venture in Berlin yesterday.
Traditionally, housing estates market the local cable service, sometimes also as a so-called ‘level 4 operator’ themselves. Level 4 operators cover the last mile to the home.
The new Deutsche Telekom service on VDSL is now available in 27 German cities and should reach 50 – representing more than half of the German population – by the end next year. In other areas, Deutsche Telekom uses its ADSL 2+ network.
