US DTH platform DirecTV has added a number of new HD channels, bringing the total to 72. The new broadcasters joining the platform include Cartoon Network, Fox Business Network, FX, National Geographic Channel, HD Theater, A&E HD and Smithsonian HD.
The number of premium movie channels from Starz Entertainment has also been increased with three more, Starz Comedy HD, Starz Edge HD and Starz Kids & Family HD.
The move is part of DirecTV’s major push for HD with heavy promotion in print and on air to lure new customers to the DTH service. The company said it hopes to reach 100 HD channels by year end.
