The Hungarian public broadcaster MTV’s annual budget amounts to HUF30 billion (€120.7 million), according to a report produced by its president Zoltán Rudi and highlighted in the local press. The significance of the figure is that it is identical to that of 10 years ago and should be closer to HUF70 billion. Although Rudi’s three years in office have seen a turnaround in MTV’s financial fortunes – it now records pre-tax profits – the broadcaster has arguably fallen behind its counterparts in other regional countries, some of which have launched several thematic channels.
