Hungary’s Radio and Television Board (ORTT) has decided to grant a total of HUF85 million (€340,228) to two news-based channels for the introduction of digital broadcasting. While the right-of-centre Hir TV will receive HUF40 million, left-of-centre ATV has been allocated HUF45 million. The decision is seen locally as a political compromised by the left-of-centre government as the country starts to prepare for the transition to digital broadcasting, due to be completed by 2012.
