Jules Grenier, deputy CEO of Portuguese operator Cabovisao has ruled out the acquisition of rival net PT Multimedia. Jornal de Negocios quoted Grenier has saying the purchase would be too expensive. Cabovisao is owned by Cogeco, Canada’s fourth biggest cable operator.
Portugal Telecom is required to spin-off its PTM subsidiary, a move that Grenier said would be positive for the sector. He did not rule out the acquisition of other operators, such as the regional net TVTel, should they become available.
Cabovisao has around 290,000 taking the basic cable package and a further 400,000 taking internet and telephony services. Grenier admitted that take up of triple play services was shy of 50%.
