French commercial broadcaster TF1 continues to block the distribution of the France 24 news channel on IPTV bouquets distributed over ADSL. Public broadcaster France Télévisions, which is also part of the joint venture that runs the channel, tried to convince their partner, but were faced with a veto from TF1.
There are currently three national news channels competing for French television audiences: TF1 runs LCI, La Chaine Info, and is in direct competition with i-Television from Canal+ and the independent business news channel BFM. Adding France 24, which is aimed at an international audience and funded by government grants, would only increase the competition.
