Aggressive marketing and box giveaways have paid off for the Swedish telco Telia. Its IPTV service has now registered its 200,000th customer. The figure is double that the company reported in May this year. Exchanges covering 2.5 million households have now been upgraded to allow IPTV reception.
The package, known as Telia Smart, equips the customer with a gateway that incorporates a broadband modem, a built-in wireless network, an IP telephony adapter and a firewall. Customers can then enjoy TV, including video on demand, and store their photographs on Telia’s secure servers. In July, Telia customers set a new record for on demand access, with almost 1,000 movies rented per day.
