The Belgian commercial French language broadcaster RTL-TVi will launch a special digital birthday channel on September 20 to mark the 20th anniversary of the broadcaster. Called RTL-TVi 20 ans the temporary Walloon channel will show highlights from the past 20 years as well as a daily talk show and new movies and series before they are screened on the main channel.
RTL-TVi 20 ans is the first digital channel for French speaking Belgium and will be exclusively distributed by the VOO digital platform of operators Brutélé and ALE-Teledis. About 750 hours of archive material will be shown on the channel, that will cease broadcasting mid-January. Last year, Flemish commercial broadcaster VTM already experimented with seasonal digital channels: VTMZomer during the summer of 2006 and VTMKerst during the Christmas holiday season late last year.
