IBC 2007 – AMSTERDAM. Cabot Communications has announced that it has become the first DVB middleware provider to achieve Playback Group 1 & 2 compliance. Its Aurora XT, Cabot’s DVB middleware suite has helped the Bristol-based company to become achieve the accreditation. The middleware has already been validated on multiple platforms and chipsets.
The Playback specification, drawn up by the Digital TV Group, introduces a common set of standards for digital video recorders on the UK’s DTT system. It is being introduced in three phases and includes functionality such as series link, alternative instance (where the device searches for the second transmission of a programme in the event of a recording clash) and split-events (enabling both parts of a programme to be recorded when it would otherwise be interrupted by another programme such as the news).
