The Prague City Court has handed down a two-year suspended sentence and fine of CZK5 million (€180.656) to the MEP Vladimir Zelezny for tax evasion. Zelezny helped launch the leading Czech station TV Nova with CME in 1994 but subsequently fell out with the US investment company, a high-profile dispute between the two parties ending with the Czech state paying out a huge amount of compensation to CME. Zelezny was also active in the Slovak TV industry, helping to start up TV Joj in the early 2000s. Zelezny has lodged an appeal against the Prague City Court’s verdict.
