The Polish public broadcaster TVP is to start carrying commercials within programmes for the first time this autumn. According to local reports, the move, which will initially affect only two popular shows, is not allowed under existing legislation. However, a spokesman for the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has said that TVP may try get round this by effectively splitting the programmes into separate shows. The additional commercials could see TVP, which operates two national, one regional, one international and three thematic channels and plans to launch a DTH platform, increase its ad revenues several-fold at certain times of day.
