Let in On2 live streaming

August 16, 2007 02.33 Europe/London By Donald Koeleman

IBC 2007 (Stand 6.111)

Codec developer On2 Technologies and encoding systems vendor Inlet Technologies announced today that Inlet has licensed On2’s live Flash video encoding technologies for integration with Inlet’s advanced encoding solutions.

As a result of this agreement, programmers, broadcasters and new media distribution companies using Inlet’s Fathom® advanced encoding platform will be able to support Adobe® Flash® Player 8 and 9 using On2 VP6™ based video capabilities. The integrated solution will offer customers enhanced capabilities to program, schedule, and manage live Flash video broadcasts.

“On2 is charting the next step in web video with its live solutions,” said Mike Savello, senior vice president of Flash business for On2. “With Inlet, we are bringing enhanced live capabilities to robust and proven encoding solutions that assure quality live broadcasts with VP6.”

Inlet’s Fathom is the world’s most powerful encoding platform for VC-1, Windows Media, AVC and Flash files, providing stunning quality along with breakthrough workflow capabilities for the speed to produce digital files, even high-definition content, in real time. Inlet’s Semaphore, the first automated quality control software for digital encoding, eliminates the time-wasting tedium of manual video quality checking by evaluating hours of content in minutes.

“Inlet’s flexible, high-quality encoding solutions are enabling content creators, programmers and distributors to satisfy consumer demand for more content on any screen,” said Neal Page, CEO of Inlet Technologies. “Integrating On2’s Flix solutions into Inlet’s Fathom product line will allow programmers and broadcasters to deploy compelling large-scale broadcasting services for both on-demand and live VP6 streaming.”

On2 VP6 is the video format used in Adobe Flash Player 8 and 9, and is available on more than 90 percent of PCs worldwide. On2’s Flix Live is the first product line introduced in the market for streaming live Flash video.

Inlet’s products supporting live Flash from On2 are currently shipping.
