Google has said it will close its online video shop that both sells and rents videos online. Launched in January 2006, the service includes a proprietary viewer, and lets consumers pay to rent or permanently download a range of user generated and professionally-produced videos. Content deals were in place with CBS, NBC and ITN with single programmes retailing at $1.99.
Video downloads will no longer be viewable to buyers, but the company said it will refund customers who purchased these [not so] permanent downloads with credits they can use through Google’s online payment service, Checkout.
