The UK’s digital booking service for doctor’s appointments has gone live on Sky Digital, Virgin Media and mobile phones. The national service covers over 1,100 surgeries across the country and is operated by local government’s not for profit organisation DigiTV.
Trials in South Yorkshire showed that patients were less likely to miss an appointment when they had booked it themselves through the system. Patients see the same booking system available to doctor’s receptionists.
The system is being extended to include repeat prescriptions.
A recent addition to the areas taking services from DigiTV is South Lakeland District Council in Cumbria where digital switchover will take place in less than 100 days.
