Italian communications minister Paolo Gentiloni, and the Chairman of the communications guarantee authority (AGCOM), Corrado Calabrò have unveiled a single national television frequency database. The project was launched last year in an attempt to clean up Italy’s notoriously cluttered broadcast spectrum.
While the ministry of communications is responsible for updating the national frequency register (RNF) and assigning new frequencies, AGCOM’s institutional responsibilities include keeping the national register of communication operators (ROC).
It is hoped that the new register will be able to identify areas of frequency congestion and where the spectrum has been under utilised.
