The US investment company CME has acquired the remaining 20% in Slovakia’s TV Markiza it did not already own for SKK1.9 billion (€57.27 million). CME launched TV Markiza with local partners in 1996 and it soon became the country’s leading broadcaster. Although its viewing figures have fallen back in recent years due to growing competition from publicly owned STV and the commercial station Joj, it remains by far the most popular broadcaster in Slovakia, claiming an all-day audience share of 34.3% in H1 2007.
